WOFIJ President Daud Abdi Daud “Jourd”

Daud Abdi Daud Dimbil is prominent Somali journalist by profession and was born in 1982 in Mogadishu, Somalia. When he was graduated from high school namely Mogadishu Boarding School based in Mogadishu, Somalia in 2000, he started to work as journalist because it was his hoppy and created his own health newspaper called Daryeel in the end of 2000 till 2007. During his work periods he was the deputy director of radio Abudwaak based in Abudwak district in Galgaduud region of central Somalia and he was also worked for radio Shabelle and Hornafric radio stations based in Mogadishu as correspondent in 2004-2007 in Galgaduud region of Central Somalia regions.

He played a vital role in the journalism field and his other work experiences are; He was the founder as well as the first executive director of the Somali Journalist Rights Agency (SOJRA), co-founder of the National Association of Somali Science and Environmental Journalists (NASSEJ) but now known as Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) and he was an instrumental in the creation of the Somali Coalition for Freedom of Expression (SOCFEX) and founder of Somali Christian Development Network (SOCDEN), Co-founder of the African Federation of Environmental Journalists (AFEJ) but now know as AFIJ, the African Federation of Intercultural Journalists and also a founder of the World Federation of Environmental and Intercultural Journalists (WOFEJ)….click here to see more 

WOFIJ Vice President Ummay Marzan Jui

Ummay Marzan Jui is a freelance journalist. Earlier, she worked daily as Staff Feature Writer at The Business Standard and Research Assistant at the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD). She is a student of Master of Arts in Literature and Cultural Studies at ULAB. She is also a freelance reporter for The Third Pole (TTP) and Earth Journalism and Network (EJN). In 2020, she has recently won Unicef Meena Media Awards for her report on how climate change is undermining education in the coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Jui takes a keen interest in SDG-related issues, especially SD Goal 14. As part of her interest in SDG, some of her mentionable works include feature reports on climate change, environment, child education, and gender-based violence as well as translation and transcriptions of different project works.

Mrs. Margot McMahon, WOFIJ American Continent Director & WOFEJ Envoy to the United Nations (UN) 

Internationally awarded artist, Margot McMahon writes, sculpts, and paints images to remind others to make every decision for life on earth.  Her current paintings of Palauan Coral and its effect on US weather have been exhibited extensively throughout the Chicago area as have her wood carvings of the diversity of birds. Sidi El Moctar Cheiguer, WOFIJ Africa Regional Director & President of the African Network of Environmental Journalists (ANEJ)

Dinesh Lakhanpal, WOFIJ Asia & Pacific Regional Director

Dinesh Lakhanpal is a creative writer-turned-journalist-turned-film maker from India, based in Mumbai and has to his credit more than seventy documentaries, a feature film as Script-writer, Director and has been associated in the production of six regional feature films in various capacities. He has also contributed more than three hundred articles as a freelancer to various newspapers and magazines.

The canvas of his creative work includes films on environment, development, social-issues, fundamental sciences, socio-cultural issues, biographical, art, music, literature, cinema and folk cultures as well besides a series of films categorized as corporate films or issues related to socio-economic and soci0-political domains.

Having won seven major international awards and two national awards, his films have been part of various film festival within India and abroad too.   He has  actively participated in various International events like International Hindi Conference on Hindi Teaching in South East Asia at TUFS, Tokyo, Japan, COP 7 of the CBD Meeting at Kuala Lumpur, World Forum on Communication Rights, WSIS, Geneva, Switzerland, 7th World Hindi Conference, Suriname, Regional Seminar for the  Protection of Farmer’s Rights,  Kathmandu, Nepal, World Summit for Sustainable Development, Johannesburg, South Africa,  Conference on Sustainable Justice, Montreal, Canada, Conference on Intellectual Property Rights, Developing Countries and Poor People, held by UK Govt.’s Commission on IPR at. London, Millennium Wetland Event, Quebec 2000, COP 5 meeting of CBD held at UNEP HQs, Nairobi and World Bhojpuri Conference, Mauritius, either covering the events and/or as a special invitee.
